Natalia Gillespie (b. 2001) was born in New York City and raised in many cities across the United States. She received her BA in photography from Bard College and is currently working in Philadelphia. Natalia works in photography, sculpture, and video to communicate the visceral and ineffable experiences of living in a body. Through large format images of scars, portraits of people with personal significance, and performances of dance and movement, she explores the way a body holds painful experiences and the sites and methods of transformation. She aims to deconstruct the separation between earth and body and looks to phenomena in nature to think about growth and renewal as a cyclical process. She is interested in the unexplored territories of the middle space, in both content and form - where soft and hard materials meet, eroticism and pain exist, simultaneously, and the physical and psychological experiences feel indiscernible.
